Inclement Weather - Cancellation Procedure
Date: July 1, 2016
To: Parents/Guardians From: Wayne Guiltner, Superintendent Re: Inclement Weather Cancellation Procedure
Dear Parents/Guardians, The Salem School District will use the SchoolMessenger telephone announcement program to announce school cancellations and/or early dismissals. School cancellations due to inclement weather will be broadcast between 5:30 a.m and 6:00 a.m. If a decision regarding school cancellation is made after 6:00 a.m., the call will go out as soon as possible after the decision has been made to cancel school. If a decision regarding school cancellation is made in the evening, regarding the next school day, the message will be sent during the evening. Please help us keep our database up-to-date by notifying the elementary or high school office if your phone number changes.
The SchoolMessenger broadcast call is made as a service to Salem School District parents. Please do not depend solely on the call broadcast system for school cancellation announcements. Phone problems can occur during inclement weather and interfere with SchoolMessenger announcements. This system is being used in addition to local radio, TV station, and social media announcements. Parents are encouraged to continue to monitor the radio, TV stations, and social media sites that are listed below.
Announcements will only be made to cancel school -- no announcement means school will be in session. As soon as a decision to cancel school is made, we will call the radio/TV stations and ask them to announce the cancellation. They usually get the message out as soon as they receive it.
Cancellation announcements will also be posted on the district website (www.salemschools.net), Facebook Page (Search for Salem School District), and Twitter (@SalemSchools) as soon as possible.
Please do not attempt to call radio/TV stations or school officials. These calls will only tie up phone lines and cause delays in the announcements.
Radio/TV Stations will be called in this order. KSAR (Salem) 92.3 FM www.myhometownradiostations.com K-Kountry 95 (Thayer) 95.1 FM www.kkountry.com KTLO (Mtn. Home) 97.9 FM www.ktlo.com KAIT/TV Channel 8 (Jonesboro) www.kait8.com
It is the mission of the Salem Schools to educate all students by providing a challenging curriculum that promotes higher-order thinking skills, technology integration, and problem-solving through relevant and engaging activities. We will provide the experiences necessary for all students to become college and career ready.
