SALEM SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES
SALEM SCHOOL DISTRICT
February 18, 2008
The Board of Education of the Salem School District #30, state of Arkansas, met in regular session on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the boardroom on the high school campus. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Yarnell.
Present: Yarnell, Falco, Koelling, Innis, and Coffman
The Chairman declared a quorum present and opened the meeting for business.
The minutes from the January 21, 2008 regular meeting were reviewed. Falco made the motion, second by Innis to approve the minutes as written. Passed.
The minutes from the January 30, 2008 called meeting were reviewed. Koelling made the motion, second by Falco to approve the minutes as written. Passed.
The first item on the agenda was the consideration of bus bids. After discussion, Superintendent Ken Rich gave a recommendation to accept the bid for a 2009 International 65 passenger bus from Diamond States International at a price of $71,375.00 and to reject all activity bus bids. Innis made the motion, second by Coffman to accept the bid as recommended. Passed.
Superintendent Rich began the review of sections six and seven of the ASBA model policies. He noted that the review of section three would begin at the next month’s meeting, as it would take a greater amount of time for review.
At the consideration of the renewal of principals’ contracts, the board retired into executive session at 7:37 p.m.
The board returned to open session at 7:53 p.m. Superintendent Ken Rich gave the recommendation to renew the contract of David Turnbough for elementary principal for the 2008/2009 school year. Coffman made the motion, second by Falco to extend the contract as recommended. Passed.
Superintendent Rich recommended the renewal of Wayne Guiltner’s contract as high school principal for the 2008/2009 school year. Innis made the motion, second by Coffman to renew the contract as stated. Passed.
High School Principal Wayne Guiltner recognized Salem Band members achieving All-State Band honors and announced the school’s Spelling Bee winners.
Superintendent Rich presented a petition of transfer for two students from the Izard County Consolidated School District (attached) and recommended the acceptance of the transfer. Innis made the motion second by Falco to accept the transfer. Passed.
The financial reports were reviewed.
Innis presented the motion to adjourn with a second by Coffman. Passed.
The Chairman declared the meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
