SALEM SCHOOL DISTRICT

“Called Meeting”

August 14, 2007 

 

The Board of Education of the Salem School District #30, state of Arkansas, met in special session on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. in the boardroom on the high school campus.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Smith.

ROLL CALL:

Present:  Yarnell, Falco, Koelling, Innis, and Smith

Absent:  None

The Chairman declared a quorum present and opened the meeting for business.

The Superintendent informed the board of personnel matters relating to employment and the board went into executive session at 6:01 p.m.

Open session convened at 6:35 p.m.  Superintendent Ken Rich read a letter of resignation from high school cook Stephanie White and recommended to accept her resignation.  Yarnell made the motion, second by Falco to accept the resignation.  Passed.

Superintendent Rich gave the recommendation to employ Thelma Allen as high school cook for the 2007-2008 school year.  Innis made the motion, second by Koelling to hire Thelma Allen as recommended.  Passed.

Superintendent Rich recommended to employ Gaye Passmore as an elementary aide to a third grade student with special needs with employment contingent on the student’s enrollment in school.  Koelling made the motion, second by Yarnell to employ Gaye Passmore as recommended.  Passed.

Superintendent Rich recommended to extend a contract to Gail Travelstead as a special care aide to a twelfth grade student conditional upon his enrollment in school.  Yarnell made the motion second by Innis to employ Gail Travelstead as recommended.  Passed..

Falco made the motion to adjourn with a second from Koelling.  Passed.

The Chairman declared the meeting adjourned at 6:37 p.m.

 

SALEM SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

SALEM SCHOOL DISTRICT

August 20, 2007

 

The Board of Education of the Salem School District #30, state of Arkansas, met in regular session on Monday, August 20, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. in the boardroom on the high school campus.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Smith.

ROLL CALL:

Present:  Yarnell, Falco, Koelling, Innis, and Smith

Absent:  None

The Chairman declared a quorum present and opened the meeting for business.

The minutes from the July 16, 2007 regular meeting were reviewed.  Innis made the motion, second by Falco to approve the minutes as written.  Passed.

The minutes from the August 14, 2007 called meeting were reviewed.  Yarnell made the motion, second by Koelling to approve the minutes as written.  Passed.

Superintendent Ken Rich demonstrated the high school surveillance system to board members and presented a walk through of the building to see the surveillance camera locations and work performed by the maintenance staff over the summer.

Superintendent Rich reported on the first day of school noting 762 students with 352 at the high school and 410 at the elementary school.

High School Principal Wayne Guiltner reported on the 06/07 ACT scores taken by students and presented a five-year score trend to the board noting they were at or above state scores.

Superintendent Rich presented a petition for transfer of a student from Viola to Salem and gave an acceptance recommendation to the board.  Innis made the motion second by Falco to accept the student transfer as recommended (attached).  Passed.

Superintendent Rich also presented a student transfer from Salem to the Melbourne school district.  Yarnell made the motion, second by Innis to accept the transfer (attached).  Passed.

The financial reports were reviewed.

Superintendent Rich announced that Cindy Smith would be a long-term substitute for Rhonda Huddleston teaching Family and Consumer Science.

Koelling made the motion to adjourn with a second from Yarnell.  Passed.

The Chairman declared the meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
