SALEM SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES
SALEM SCHOOL DISTRICT
September 15, 2003
The Board of Education of the Salem School District #30, state of Arkansas, met in regular session on Monday, September 15, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. in the boardroom on the high school campus. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Yarnell.
Present: Yarnell, Innis, Smith, and Welch
The Chairman declared a quorum present and opened the meeting for business.
The minutes were reviewed for the August 18, 2003, regular meeting. Innis made the motion, second by Welch, to approve the minutes as written. Passed.
The first item discussed was the school’s participation in School Bus Safety Week. Elementary Principal David Turnbough informed the board of the various safety drills and activities presented to elementary students.
Superintendent Bob Foster discussed the latest developments in education reform efforts and announced that no compromise plan has been agreed upon.
Next, board members were given annual statements of financial interest to disclose and file with the county clerk. Superintendent Foster presented resolutions to continue doing business with Sharp Office Supply and AWL Wholesale Electric noting financial interests of a school board member and employee. Welch made the motion, second by Smith to accept the resolutions as recommended (attached). Passed.
Next, Superintendent Foster discussed the 2001-2002 Audit Report findings with the board noting a good audit with no correcting violations to report.
Smith made the motion, second by Innis to go into executive session to discuss a personnel matter. Passed.
The board returned to open session at 7:50 p.m. with no action taken as a result of the executive session.
The financial reports were reviewed.
Superintendent Foster informed the board of a time delay in receiving a new school bus from the factory and asked for permission to wait until spring and to reorder at that time. Innis made the motion, second by Smith to delay getting the new school bus until the spring of 2004. Passed.
School improvement reports were reviewed with the board and the School District’s Performance Report to Parents for the previous year was discussed.
Current enrollment at the district was noted at approximately 720 students.
Smith made a motion to adjourn, second by Welch. Passed.
The Chairman declared the meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
